Blake Carter
Twenty years in B2B software, from engineering through CEO and full P&L ownership. Open to senior technical and leadership roles where the vision, product and challenge genuinely align.
Builder first, executive second. 20+ years shipping B2B software — from hands-on engineering through to full P&L ownership of a 36-product portfolio inside the Constellation Software group, then back to the tools as a solo founder. Comfortable in the boardroom and in the repository, usually on the same day.
Now looking for senior technical or leadership work where the vision and product are worth committing to. I am equally comfortable with an ambiguous brief, hands on the tools and a short path from idea to working artefact; the last two years have been exactly that, working solo. Equally open to leading the right long-term vision or product—provided it leaves room for the research, technical judgement and building that I am genuinely passionate about.
“As tenacious as he is clever.”
“He’ll argue the P&L in the morning and fix the build in the afternoon.”
“The only executive I’ve worked for who read the code before the report.”
Chase the problem nobody has funded yet.
Lost-person modelling that predicted the correct search zone 73% of the time at six hours, against 45% for the expanding-circle method it was measured against, across 47 resolved search-and-rescue cases. Nobody commissioned it.
Take the team with you, or do not bother going.
R&D and Professional Services rebuilt around automated delivery in the middle of a full replatform — team eNPS held at 8.5–9.5/10 throughout.
Finish the unglamorous part.
100 divergent codebases merged into 2 unified masters, and source control introduced across 150+ legacy repositories that had never had any.
Founder
Independent applied-research and prototype practice: taking ambiguous technical problems from first principles to working systems, quickly enough to learn what is real.
Starling — seven months and ~1,600 commits on a multi-agent research pipeline: LangGraph orchestration over Claude extracting structured claims from investor communities, evaluating them against market data and scoring source credibility, with architecture decision records kept as the design changed.
Velocity as the actual result: a split-tunnel VPN stack across Rust, Flutter and Python in five days; a geological prospecting engine in nine; a working Agent Client Protocol bridge — routing Claude Code teammates to Codex, Gemini or Copilot, with circuit-breaker fallback and memory surviving a model swap — in one.
A trading-research loop that publishes its own negative results — walk-forward out-of-sample backtests with block-bootstrap significance testing, and 23 write-ups covering the strategies it rejected as well as the ones it kept.
Reverse-engineered an abandoned 1980s spreadsheet format to recover 1,761 climate research records from 1991-92 that no modern software could read — the kind of problem nobody funds and somebody should.
A delivery method built on LLM tooling, MCP and prompt engineering — the reason one operator can carry five products from research to release.
Chief Executive Officer
Post-acquisition, turn a fragmented estate of 40+ customised forks into a coherent PropTech portfolio — without dropping margin or losing the team.
36 core products (~250k LOC each) replatformed under a single portfolio programme; the alpha successor to a 450k+ LOC mission-critical system launched in under 12 months.
40–50% EBITA margin sustained through the transition, with full ownership of strategy and financial performance.
R&D and Professional Services rebuilt around automated delivery and reporting; team eNPS held at 8.5–9.5/10.
Operations Manager
Make a fast-moving engineering business auditable and secure enough to sell into government and enterprise, without slowing delivery.
GRC run across Secure Controls Framework, Essential Eight and ISO 27001 / ISO 9001 — every audit closed with zero findings; Change Management policies and SDLC procedures implemented.
SIEM and EDR deployed across corporate and cloud infrastructure; high-security integrations designed and delivered for Government and enterprise clients.
24/7 availability maintained across a private cloud and large-scale OLTP database estate.
Senior Developer / Software Architect
Bring 150+ untracked legacy codebases under control and establish the engineering foundations the business had never had.
100 divergent codebases merged into 2 unified masters; source control introduced across 150+ legacy repositories.
CI/CD pipelines, CRM, SOPs and DevOps practice established from a standing start.
Led development and support teams across .NET and Objective-C, owning customer solutions end to end.

In my experience, you learn more from a quick yarn than you do from a pile of résumés. If you feel the same way, just email or book a time for an open-book conversation.
